  Goshin-Ho & Goshin-Waza

I have heard many stories over the years about the personal contact many Karate Seniors have had with the founder of Chito-ryu, Dr. Chitose.  {When I say personal contact, I am referring to personal body contact in an attack/defense situation.}  Invariably these stories will result in the Seniors mentioning Chitose's self-defense abilities. While recounting these stories the one's I have most often heard are the stories of Dr. Chitose's ability to paralyze or numb an attacker's arm after they had reached to grab or launch an impacting technique at him. I have heard these fascinating stories while training with several Chito-ryu teachers as well as other Senior Karate Teachers, teachers such as; Sensei Masami Tsuruoka, Sensei Inomoto, Sensei Taishiro, Sensei Katoh, Sensei James Miyaji, Sensei William Dometrich, Sensei Shane Higashi, Sensei Sakamoto, Sensei Kugimiya, Sensei David Akutagawa,  Sensei Richard Kim, Sensei Bobby Lowe and many, many more.

Having heard stories from all of the men listed above, the greatest amount of stories came from my first Chito-ryu karate teacher, Sensei George Van Horne. Sensei Van Horne spent a considerable amount of time training with Dr. Chitose during his trips to Japan as well as Dr. Chitose's trips to the US. Sensei Van Horne was even fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to stay with Dr. Chitose in his home during his visits which gave him an even greater opportunity to witness and experience the Founder in action.
