Karate Seminar Topics:

Goshin-Waza (Self-Defense Techniques)

Goshin-Ho (Self-Defense Methods)

For any system to be considered a martial art, it must be above all else "effective." This philosophy has been handed down to me through the teaching of both of my instructors and has served as a major directive whenever I teach. Having fought many full contact matches as well as having had the opportunity to teach police officers and military personnel, especially the highly motivated Special Forces Soldiers has helped me to understand the difference between what is effective and what is not. In this seminar my instructors and I teach how to respond to many aggressive situations including how to neutralize the opponent through the application of control techniques and impacting techniques directed at anatomical vulnerable areas of the human body.

     Kihon-Waza (Basic Technique)

The understanding of basic technique is extremely important since the basic techniques serve as the "tools of application" for the delivery system during any encounter. To have a good knowledge of technique, but no method of delivery for that technique would be futile. In this seminar my instructors and I concentrate on the delivery of explosive techniques with minimal effort through the use of economy of motion while applying the 5 major power sources of the body as well as the application of the many power enhancers of the human body.

Kata Bunkai-Omote & Ura (Applications)

Recently there has been a new found interest in the Oyo-waza (Practical Self-Defense Applications of Kata.) These Self-Defense Applications are known as the bunkai of the kata. To practice a kata without the knowledge of it's encrypted applications principles would be equal to a soldier attempting to use a weapon that he knows little about and has never actually fired. "Understanding the bunkai of any one kata can result in the understanding of the bunkai of many kata." Mr. Davenport's knowledge of bunkai is well founded due to his extensive years of study with many senior martial artist. His knowledge has been further reinforced through his medical knowledge gained while serving for many years as a front line paramedic, as well as the years he has spent teaching empty hand defensive tactics to police officers and special forces military personnel. These seminars will cover both Omote (obvious) and Ura (concealed or hidden) movements in the kata.
